At Wagner’s Shoes for Kids, we believe in the importance of the proper fitting shoe - particularly when it comes to toddlers who are just beginning to walk. When your little one is just beginning to walk, it is essential for them to have a shoe that offers support and comfort. Here are some of our recommendations for your little boy or girl’s first walking shoes.
-
The Todd || Footmates
The Todd is your traditional walking shoe that has been around for generations. The higher ankle provides ankle support that is extremely helpful for children who are first learning to stand and walk. The hard sole of this shoe is also helpful in preventing gait issues as children learn to walk.
-
The Seraph || Footmates
The Seraph is another classic walking shoe that is made specifically for early walkers. The bottom of the Seraph is harder than that of the Todd and is worn more as a correctional shoe. This is helpful for children who walk on their tip-toes--or who are pigeon-toed--because the hard bottom forces them to walk heel-to-toe. The Seraph also provides ankle support, which is essential for balance.
-
990 || New Balance
Unlike the Todd and the Seraph, the 990 looks more like a typical sneaker and comes in both lace-up and Velcro. The 990 is more modern, yet still provides the same support as the traditional walking shoes. These shoes provide more durability for those kiddos who are harder on their shoes and can be worn more casually.

888 || New Balance
The 888 from New Balance is our most affordable shoe that we recommend to young walkers. Like the 990, it can be found with a lace-up or Velcro enclosure. The 888 also comes in a variety of colors that will meet anyone's needs.
